Scott Barkett

About Me
- Before joining the BHS faculty in 2013, I
worked in Boston, Cambridge, and
Brookline Public Schools in various
support roles.
- I grew up in Warren, Ohio and graduated
from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio
with a degree in Social Studies education.
- Im in my third year as an assistant
varsity coach for the Cambridge Rindge
and Latin boys soccer team.
- In my free time I enjoy being
disappointed by Cleveland sports teams,
reading, and exploring Greater Boston.

Our Goals in
Modern World History
1.

Our driving goal is to help students better understand


and reflect on power in their world.

2.

I am keen on fostering an environment where


reflection and critical thinking is the norm, with
application to our own lives.

3.

Follow the standard curriculum as closely as possible,


with appropriate modification.

Standard Unit Schedule


Unit 1: Enlightenment
Unit 2: French Revolution
Unit 3: Imperialism
Unit 4: WWI
Unit 5: Totalitarianism + Stalin
Unit 6: Rise of Hitler
Unit 7: WWII
Unit 8: Cold War
Unit 9: (hopefully!) Post-Cold War Conflict

A Typical Day in
Modern World
History
1. Go over agenda; write HW in
planner.
2. Answer/discuss the days
Warm Up question
3. Begin the days lesson.
4. Generally, unfinished
classwork becomes our HW, to
account for students working
at different paces.
