Major Philosopher Presentation

For part of your Independent study unit you will be required to research
a philosopher and explain several of his/her key ideas to the class.. Your
presentation needs to be minimum 15 minutes to 20 minutes. I expect
polish! Please see me if you need help narrowing down which theories to
choose or if you need to confirm your understanding. You must use the wesite
hztpathfinder.weebly.com to start your research and find style guides etc.
Information you need to cover
Basic background and inspiration in the philosophers life
2 major ideas explained in detail. These need to be explained
clearly and in depth. This is where majority of your mark will come
from. You need to teach the class the concepts. Make sure you
understand them yourself of no one will understand you. Simplify and
use basic language. Should be 5 minutes on each theory.
Significance and Impact of the philosopher and ideas and how does
this philosopher connect to today?
3 famous quotes on an overhead explain and discuss. Make sure
they are philosophical quotes and you understand context.
What else will you be marked on?
Creativity and use of media dont read off a printout from
Wikipedia! Use at least 3 teaching tools and use them effectively ie)
aided in understanding. You will only get full marks if you they are
strong teaching aids/ actually helped clarify or reinforce a key
idea/point.
Effort and Preparation it should be very clear that considerable
time and effort was put into your research and presentation (days not
hours). Ready to present on time.
Cue Cards all of your key talking points must be written on cue
cards in very point form. This is all you can have to read from for your
presentation. These must be submitted to me at the end of your
presentation.
Handout one page, one side, point form. Basics about life, brief
explanation of theories (focus), significance. This must be submitted
the day before your presentation.
Works Cited You are required to submit a printed list of sources used
to gather your research to me on the day of presentation. You must use
at least 4 sources and they must all be of considerable depth.
Wikipedia only counts as one.
* If you have a valid absence you must contact me in the morning to notify
me and be ready to present the day you return (considered your renegotiated
