Division Notes

Division is breaking numbers up into equal groups. Division is the inverse of


Multiplication and can also be viewed as repeated subtraction.
Important Terms:
Dividend: The number that is being divided into. It is also the largest
number or total. This is the first number is an division sentence ( 56 8 =
7 ) 56 is the dividend. It is also the number located inside the house.
Divisor: The number that is being divided by. The second number is a
division sentence or the number outside the house.
Quotient: The answer to a division problem.
Remainder: The number that is left over in a division problem and is a
part of the quotient.
Steps to Long Division:
1.) DAD=Divide
2.) MOM=Multiply
3.) SISTER=Subtract
4.) BROTHER=Bring Down
5.) ROVER=Remainder
EX: 1) 83 9 =

2) 75 12 =
