AC VS DC

By: Caitlin Harris

Ac current- is an electric current in which the flow of electric charge periodically reverses
direction, whereas in direct current (DC, also dc), the flow of electric charge is only in one
direction.

Dc current- is the unidirectional flow of electric charge. Direct current is produced by sources
such as batteries, power supplies, thermocouples, solar cells, or dynamos.

Difference between Ac and Dc current

Alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) are notable for inspiring the name of an iconic
metal band, but they also happen to sit right at the center of the modern world as we know it.
AC and DC are different types of voltage or current used for the conduction and transmission of
electrical energy.

The pros and cons of AC and DC

electricity

AC requires more push to get through the lines, thus wastes precious power

AC devices assume the voltage from the grid

DC devices such as made for camping require less push

DC conserve energy, especially when the production and use are same locale

DC camping lamps and heaters and whatever use 12V

AC and high voltage are dangerous for family group to try to produce (read
electrocution)
