Assumptions
1. Students proficiency in reading, writing, and math
impact their performance in every course.
2. Every teacher is a teacher of reading, writing and
math.
3. MAP data is ONE point of information to help us
understand our students as learners

Definitions
Normative Data: Normative data is data from a reference population that establishes a baseline
distribution for a score or measurement, and against which the score or measurement can be
compared. Normative data is typically obtained from a large, randomly selected representative sample
from the wider population.
RIT: the RIT (Rasch Unit) scale, is a stable equal-interval vertical scale that helps illuminate what he or
she knows, is ready to learn, and is projected to achieve.
Lexile: A score resulting from a correlation between the RIT score and the Lexile score to help identify
level appropriate reading material for an individual student.
Percentile: The percentage of students in NWEAs nationally normed group, for this grade, that this
students score equaled or exceeded
Standard Deviation: Indicated the variability of scores within this group. A larger standard deviation
generally reflects a wider range of scores
MAP: Measure of Academic Progress
Growth Projection: Mean growth that was observed in the latest NWEA norming study for students who
had the same starting RIT score.
Learning Continuum: the Learning Continuum serves as a reference for instructional goals by RIT. The
RIT range identifies what students are ready to learn and outlines next steps for growth.
