    The New York City Economic Development Corporation has been developing ferry services since 2008 and now aims to launch a citywide ferry system by 2017-2018. The system will include 6 routes serving 21 landings, including a new Astoria route launching in 2017 with stops at Astoria, Long Island City, Roosevelt Island, East 34th Street, and Wall Street/Pier 11. Technical studies have been completed for a proposed landing at Roosevelt Island, with community outreach and environmental review ongoing and service operator selection, permitting, and construction to begin in late 2015 and 2016.
