This weekly newsletter from Miss Avery's class provides an update on the past week and upcoming events. In the past week, students completed the first quarter and reviewed subtraction strategies, short vowel sounds, and sentence structure in literacy. This upcoming week will focus on the short e sound, s blends, and identifying "just right" books at reading levels. The newsletter also lists important upcoming dates like conferences and a Halloween party, and names Eve as the "Superstar of the Week" for demonstrating respect.

I cant believe that we have completed Quarter 1 already! Each child has worked very hard in this first quarter. I have been so pleased to see what the children know, and how much they are already growing in areas that needed attention. The children are working well together as a whole to complete tasks, work in groups and continue to work on communicating their wants and needs. I am very excited to see what Last week, we reviewed the different subtraction strategies to wrap up Chapter 2. They compared addition to subtraction and identifying balanced equations/true and false equations. In literacy, we reviewed the short o sound and clusters with l (clap, slip, blue). We worked with the different sentence parts to write more interesting sentences. In reading, we used different graphic organizers to help sequence the events in a story to better comprehend it. We are also applying these organizers and sequence words in our writing to help organize our thoughts and prepare us to write. This week we are reviewing the short e sound and using different s blends (st, sw, sn, squ and str). We will be using these blends to sound out and blend new words. We will be reading different stories, focusing on text features. We will also be talking about just right books that are appropriate for their reading level. For grammar, we are introducing singular/ plural nouns and reviewing our antonyms/synonyms.
