Karl Garcia - Othello Quotes
4. Oh, beware, my lord, of jealousy! It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock
The meat it feeds on.
This quote is from Iago. Iago is trying to tell Othello to be alert about jealousy.
Iago then compares jealousy to a green-eyed monster who makes fun of
people. Iago explains to Othello that knowing is better than suspecting. This
quote has important implications to the rest of the play because Othello does
end up getting jealous, which led to the violent acts later on in the play.
5. I will withdraw To furnish me with some swift means of death For the fair Devil.
This quote is from Othello. When Othello says means of death For the
fair Devil., he is talking about killing Cassio. Othello is filled with so much
rage that he tells Iago to device a plan in order to kill Cassio. This has
important implications to the rest of the play because after this quote is
where Othello and Iago make their plans to kill Cassio and Desdemona.
They agree that Iago will kill Cassio and Othello will kill Desdemona. Later
on, Othello does end up killing Desdemona.
