Argentina politics:

the story of two classes

OLIGARCHY

WORKING CLASS

Oligarchy was formed after a

military campaign
1862-1912

If you had had the luck to be one of Julio Rocas generals, you would had
got a piece of land, becoming the growing argentine oligarchy

Oligarchy wanted to retain the

power, who could blame them?
At the beginning it was an easy
task: exclusion and fraud were
part of their agenda

besides Argentina almost had

no population. So who would
complain?

1862-1912

But then the European

immigrants came
Immigrants became
Argentinas working
force and they were
not going to easily
accept the status
quo

1862-1912

Conflict emerged and changes

were needed
1890-1930

But oligarchy was not willing to

lose its power
1930-1943

Oligarchy joined forces with the army and coups became

frequent (infame decade)

But society still wanted

someone to listen to their
needs
1943-1955

Juan Domingo and Eva Peron were a symbol for a generation

as they worked on improving the working class conditions

But coups continued and

continued
1955-1983

Coups were so common that society saw the oligarchy as

coup gorillas
