National Educational Technology Standards in the Classroom

In this paper I will be reviewing the six National Educational Technology Standards and
how I will apply them in my classroom.
Creativity and Innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative
products and processes using technology. Each student must use their knowledge to create
simple projects to show their basic knowledge of technology. I will have each student create an
All About Me newsletter as an introduction to his or her new teacher.
Communication and Collaboration1
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively,
including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.
Students must work in small groups to come up with ideas on how to format a newsletter on
what they want to tell their teachers.
Research and Information Fluency
Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Once a year I can
have each student, with the help of an aide or parent, research his or her favorite toy. They will
have to use many sources to find out where the toy was developed, the year it was first sold, and
at least three retailers that carried it.
Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making
Students use critical thinking skill to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve
problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. (LeverDuffy & Mcdonald, 2011). Students will be given 30 min on ABCYA.com in order to practice

critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making. Students will be required to change
which subject they are focusing for the 30 min each day.
Digital Citizenship
Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and
practice legal and ethical behavior. (Lever-Duffy & McDonald, 2011) Each day students will
be given a short lesson on cyber bulling and proper social interaction. Students will be required
to create an Edmodo account to practice proper social media behavior.
Technology Operations and Concepts
Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and
operations. At the end of each day we will have a short group activity using Gonoodle.com.
GoNoodle will give each student the opportunity to pick an activity of their choosing by
touching a link on the website. This whole group activity will be locate in the front of the
classroom using the smartboard.
I hope in reading this you will be able to see my understanding of NETS for students and
how I will effectively apply them in my classroom.
