Week of November 9-13
We have a really busy but fun week ahead! This is Book Week!
A book swap will take place all week.
The Book Character parade is on Tuesday. Please make sure that your child has an easy costume
of their favorite book character to wear.
Prime Time Reading Night is on Thursday! Wear your pjs and be ready to listen to author,
Cynthia Lord, as well as other guest readers.
Parent/teacher conferences continue this week.
Helping Hands is on Friday! Make sure your child is dressed warmly! Please send in some canned
or boxed goods, if you can.
Math: We are working on our third module of the year, Place Value, Counting, and Comparison
of Numbers to 1,000. Students will review how to represent numbers using quickdraw.
Students will also continue to use the method of Draw (using quickdraw), Box, and Label to
count numbers and to represent place value. Students will learn and practice how to write
numbers in word form, unit form, and expanded form this week.
Examples:
word: one hundred twenty-four, unit: 1 hundred 2 tens 4 ones, expanded: 100 + 20 + 4 = 124
Spelling: Long and short vowels continued. Double vowels in the middle of a word makes a
long vowel sound.

Reading: Book Club continues this week. Students are working on a variety of fluency,
comprehension, and decoding skills based on their needs.
Its a fun filled week from book swaps to Monster Trucks!! Have a great weekshare a favorite
book!
Writing: Adding details to our writing, which sounds better 1 or 2?
1)That was fun.
2)Riding my orange and black balance bike down over the bumpy trail and across the rickety
bridge was totally awesome!!
Science: We are now working on a unit about inventions and inventors. Students learned last
week the difference between discoveries and inventions. This week students will start learning
about the life and inventions of Benjamin Franklin.
Social Studies: None for now as we focus on Science.
Vocabulary: Grow your vocabulary this week. Bring back two words from your reading as part
of your homework!
