„ Assembly, equipment check and briefing session Killarney
Youth Hostel, 8am-10am
„ Climbers & drivers must sign in together

„ Transfer by bus to Carrauntoohill followed by timed climb


starts for each team
„ Average climb time 5.5hrs

„ Please note for your safety there are dangers
when climbing Lugnaquilla, when training and
on Sunday 13th June.
„ As they are military lands, each individual
must not deviate from the specified routes or
touch any metal objects you observe.

„ There is strictly no camping allowed in the field

Suggested training schedule


ƒ 1st phase 4 x 1 hour walks pw
ƒ 2nd phase 4 x 2 hour walks pw
ƒ 3rd phase 2/3 hour hill/beach walk pw
ƒ Final phase 6-8 hour hill walk can be
achieved comfortably
Training & Safety

ƒ Pre event
ƒ Training day at Brockagh Resource centre,
Laragh for 1 team member Sat 10th or Sat 17th
April
ƒ Covers map reading, compass use, pacing,
feature recognition and safety advice
ƒ Please let Joanne or Lisa know which day you
wish to attend before the end of this week.

Some things to consider

„ It is tough, physically and mentally


- Minimum sponsorship 1 month before event
- (May 7th = 6 weeks away).
„ Driving – there’s lots of it! 2 drivers per vehicle
„ Good drivers & support crew are essential
„ Correct equipment is essential
„ This is not a race, fun challenge
„ It is a fantastic weekend !
„ Volunteers needed
