November Newsletter

EVENTS:
Students went to Willowgrove this month.

Photo Orienteering - Students learned the basics of orienteering. They were able to identify the various
parts and symbols of a compass. Using a compass, students worked in pairs or in teams and travelled
the property with a photo in hand to locate a specific spot at which point they attempted to align
themselves in the same bearing as the person who took the photo. A fun and challenging task!

Announcements
Donate to Syria:
The school is now collecting food, money and unused clothing donations to help the Syrian refugees.
We are kingly asking parents to donate generously for this great cause.
The Prophet said: The believers shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity. (Al-Tirmidhi)
On the day when all other shade will be gone, Allah will shade and shelter those who give charity and care for the poor. The
Muslims sacrifice in this life will be their protection on the Day of Judgment.
Uniforms:
Any students who are not coming to school in uniform will be sent back home. Please enusre your kids are
dressed in IFS uniform with logos.
Islamic Stewardship:
This month students will develop an understanding of the social, economic and political significance of
environmental stewardship. Students will learn how they can follow in the footsteps of the prophet by creating
their own personal definition and by examining the role they play as Muslim stewards.

Classwork
Math: Students finished their Geometry Unit. They constructed nets to create
their own 3D robots. Students will begin their fourth unit on Fractions and
Decimals.
Science: Students completed their Interactions in the Environment Unit. They
shared their PowerPoint presentations on endangered species, and presented
their abiotic and biotic posters. Students will now begin their second unit on Pure
Substances and Mixtures. Students will learn to conduct experiments, and use the

scientific method in their papers. Students will perform a few labs and
experiments such as: Popcorn Lab, Candy Apples and Lemonade Lab.
Geography: Students will begin Unit 2 which covers chapter 4,5 & 6 of the
geography textbook. Chapter 4 looks at important physical patterns in Geography.
Chapter 5 looks into Global Climates and Global Warming. Chapter 6 looks into
World Agricultural Patterns. Students will also work on making collages about the
different Eco Zones in Canada.
Language: Students will be covering how to write news reports and the different
media outlets that play an important role in our daily lives. We will also continue
learning various techniques to help students with reading comprehension.
Islamic Studies: Students will be learning about the different prophets in Islam
and presenting a power point presentation on their selected prophet. Students
will also learn about Surah-Ul-Haqqah. For akhlaaq we will be covering lessons 510 from the Islamic Tahdhib and Akhlaaq text. Topics we will discuss are:
Kindness, Telling the Truth, Islamic greetings and manners as well as punctuality.
HEALTH: Students just finished their unit on healthy eating and peer pressure. We

will be learning about Personal Safety & Injury Prevention. We will be discussing
topics such as Bullying, Substance Abuse and Conflict Resolution.
Gym: Students will learning about how to play baseball and playing friendly
matchups with their class mates. Students will also be participating in
teambuilding and cooperative activities.
Art: Students will demonstrate an understanding of composition, using
multiple principles of design, to create narrative art works or art works on a
theme or topic. Students will focus on creating a focal point in their art and
using colours to express feelings and emotions.
