This document defines abnormalities and deviations from social norms. It discusses how deviations from social norms refers to failing to follow implicit societal rules, like walking naked in public. However, this is a relative definition since social norms differ across cultures and change over time. The document also defines failures to function adequately as behaviors that inhibit daily living through unpredictability, irrationality and discomfort to observers. Ultimately, the cultural variability of social norms limits their usefulness for universally defining abnormality.
