Fatal Accident at W 175th Street and Pflumm Road
The Overland Park Police Department and Johnson County, Kansas Sheriffs Office is continuing
to investigate a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday November 7th, 2015.
On Saturday, November 7th, 2015 at approximately 2:45 p.m. a Johnson County Sheriffs Deputy
observed a red sedan traveling eastbound on W 175th Street, east of Gardner, KS, at a high rate of
speed. The Sherffs Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, which accelerated and fled eastbound
on W 175th Street. The Sheriffs Deputy subsequently discontinued apprehension efforts due to the
public safety concerns and broadcasted the vehicle description and direction of travel to the
Johnson County Sheriff Dispatch Center.
Johnson County Sheriff Dispatch Center received calls regarding the red sedan as it continued
eastbound on W 175th Street. At one point the red sedan collided with another vehicle along W
175th Street. After the collision the red sedan continued eastbound on W 175th Street where it
collided with a silver passenger car at W 175th Street and Pflumm Road. After the initial impact,
the silver passenger car collided with a white pickup truck at W 175th Street and Pflumm Road.
The driver of the red sedan was identified as Boyd Chism, and subsequently arrested on scene.
The Johnson County District Attorneys Office formally charged Mr. Chism with involuntary
manslaughter and two counts of aggravated battery.
At this time the Overland Park Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is requesting any witness
who observed the crash, moments before the crash and moments immediately after the crash
