THE CASE OF TEMPERMENTAL TALENT

PROBLEM DEFINITION
Ken Vaughn is the design head of Tide Water Corporations,
manufacturer of luxury power boats. Ken is the brightest, creative and one
of the most valuable people in the company. Here the company is under
reorganizing to capture the markets. But Ken is strongly resisting the
reorganizing. Ken is very good at his work and has a very good relation
with his colleagues. He thinks that the reorganizing will change the nature
of his work and responsibilities he has now, also he thinks that he might
even loose his colleagues. Ken is now really tensed; apart from the
pressures from the work he is having tension in his personal life. He
thrashed his office and thrown away everything from his office
bookshelves. Morris Redstone is the head of the reorganization wing; he
sees that Ken should be fired from the office. But the CEO, Bob Salinger
thinks that firing ken is not the solution to problem. As he is one the most
talented and creative designer in their organization firing him can cause
any good to the company. Also he may go to a competing company and
thrash their present company
THEORY AND FRAMEWORK THAT CAN BE APPLIED
The problem with Ken is not exactly the reorganization; he doesnt know
why the restructuring is done. He is currently the design head, after the
reorganizing he will the head of product development and will be reporting
to Morris. As the case says that Ben doesnt like to work in Product
development. Bob Salinger is the only person who has personal
attachment to Ken Vaughn. He has to explain completely about the reason
for this reorganizing. Problem Ken suffering is mainly from the pressure
from his personal life and pressures from the office. Under the new
structure Ken will have to work under Morris. Ken doesnt like to work
under Morris, as he is not diplomatic and hinders his chance to display his
talents. So under new structure Ken could be given an independent office
with supporting staff. This would allow Ken to get back into his usual work.
