Lesson Reflection 8

For todays lesson, I did direct instruction. We continued learning about pronouns. I
showed the students a School House Rock video, then we did some whiteboard work. On the
whiteboard we discussed different pronouns that could be used in both the subject and object of a
sentence. We also practiced writing sentences changing the noun to a pronoun. Afterwards,
students completed their pronoun page in their language notebooks. Their language notebooks
are a compilation of different grammar rules. Its used as a reference material whenever they need
them. It involves coloring and pasting pages that relate to the grammar rule at hand, and today
happened to be pronouns. For independent practice, they completed a grammar rule page that
required them to change the nouns of a sentence to pronouns.
I thought todays lesson went well, especially the into. The language notebooks took
longer than I had planned for because of all the cutting and pasting. However, it did not affect the
ending of the lesson. I would rather take longer than necessary and have them finish, then have a
ton of incomplete work at the end. Projects that involve some form of art always take longer than
a normal lesson. It is hard to implement a lot of these into the normal day because of all the other
material that needs to be taught. If only we had more time!
