Monument Design and Importance
We decided that the best way to memorialize Aid Groups that go to Syria is to
build a black polished granite wall. Our proposal is to construct a solid wall in the
National Mall. The wall would have a map of Syria engraved in the granite on the left
and a quote on the right that says The most wonderful study of mankind is man.
Relieving human suffering and diffusing universal knowledge is humanitarian. This
quote is best for our memorial because it truly emphasizes the humanitarian objective.
The wall would have a thin stream of water flowing gently over the front of the
wall. At the bottom, there would be a tank where the water would collect and the walls
containing the water would be made out of glass. The tank would be about 2 feet deep.
We would have a plaque explaining its purpose and another one explaining how every
penny tossed would be donated to Aid Worker Organizations. It would also be possible
to place a coin through an interactive coin collecting system that would go through the
glass walls. At night, LED lights would shine on the monument for people to see. The
lights would also be placed on the wall, outlining the map of Syria and the quote to
make it stand out.
