The Tempest Main Character Quotes Reflection

The Tempest, a popular play written by William Shakespeare was our main focus for
multiple weeks in class. The play is about a powerful magician named Prospero and his daughter
Miranda living on an island yet multiple events and parallel plots begin to happen when Prospero
purposely wrecks a ship near the island and although Miranda fears about the peoples lives on
the ship, it is all part of her fathers plan to bring them to the island all alive and unharmed. The
main characters are Prospero, Miranda, Ariel, who is an airy spirit that was saved by Prospero so
he/she serves almost like a slave for him, Ferdinand, one of the shipmen who falls in love with
Miranda which was all in her fathers plan, and Gonzalo, another shipmen who is wise and
positive and he is a friend to Prospero, giving him supplies from where he lives onto his island.
For my paper, I wrote multiple character traits and quotes to each person from the acts they make
appearances in. For some, I did not include some of their quotes on each act, I only picked the
quotes that I thought were the most important on each characters and the ones that show the kind
of person they are. These quotes also can not only talk about the kind of person they are but they
can also summarize what is going on in each scene and/or act in a more simple and possibly
more easier way. Like for example when I quoted, Not a hair perished; on their sustaining
garments not a blemish. Which was said my Ariel in like 341 when he reports to Prospero that

he has not done any harm what so ever to people on the ship when he helped to wreck the ship
along with Prospero. With these kinds of quotes along with others, my paper has met with the
standard, ELAGSE9-10RI1 which is to cite textual evidence along with why it is significant. For
example I wrote things like, Referring to Prospero and how loyal and obedient he is to him,
and Trying to lighten the mood and stay positive while searing the island with Antonio,
Sebastian, and Alonso. I included these statements to make more sense and explain why these
quotes were said and why they are important. I enjoyed writing this paper and reading and
watching The Tempest in class not only can I understand Shakespeare more than I could before
this unit but this can also help build my ability to cite evidence and quotes using exact
documentation of where I found each evidence piece.
