PALSS Update

November 5, 2015
1. 6th-8th Grade Parent Night- We discussed having a Parent Night
earlier in the year and including parents of kids in the 6th and 7th grades
as well. Many times parents start thinking about high school when
their child is in the early middle school years and we thought it was
important for parents to know what RHS could offer their child. Dr.
Robeson and Mr. Morrow agreed and are going to schedule the
presentation for January. The idea would be an open house format with
a formal presentation to parents at the beginning. Dr. Robeson said
they are increasing articulation between the K-8 and the high school so
there is truly a unified district.

2. Shadow Day at RHS for 8th grade students- Parents were

interested in having their students shadow a high school student for
the day. Mr. Morrow and Dr. Robeson were very open to this idea. Mrs.
Goudeau, RHS counselor, suggested that student ambassadors from
the high school could take students around to their classes up until
lunch time and then return to their school. Appointments would also
be available for parents of those students to meet with a counselor and
answer any questions the parents had. It was suggested that the 7th
grade students may be able to take advantage of this opportunity as
well. Mr. Morrow is looking to schedule this at the end of January or
beginning of February.
3. RHS Marketing Plan-Dr. Robeson said that they hired an intern from
CSU Stanislaus to work on a marketing plan. They have a new district
logo that was just unveiled at the last board meeting. Dr. Robeson is
also hard at work overhauling the district website. The district is in the
process of developing a brochure and video about Ripon High School.
Parents were concerned about false rumors they hear about the high
school and want to make sure parents are getting the correct
information about RHS.
4. Ripon High School test scores- Mr. Morrow shared two handouts

with the PALSS group comparing the CASSP test results of RHS to 37
other high schools from Stanislaus and San Joaquin Counties. RHS was
the 2nd highest in English Language Arts for students meeting or

exceeding the standards out of 38 total schools! In math, RHS was

ranked 8th out of 38 schools for students meeting or exceeding the
standards. I have included the links to the handouts in this email.
Please be aware I could not view the data from my phone. To see it
correctly, I had to look at my computer.
