This document discusses an exercise for students to experience leading and following without verbal communication. It instructs partners to face each other and stretch out their hands without touching, then move their hands in a mirrored fashion without sound. The document asks who led, how leadership was decided, and why followers chose to follow. It then instructs switching roles and discusses how difficult that was. The next section analyzes a Martin Luther King Jr. quote about measuring leadership during challenges. It prompts recalling times of personal leadership during crisis and which traits emerged, and asks if one's actions or approach surprised themselves and if leadership style needs to change based on situations.

Were you surprised by your actions?
Did your leadership approach change? Do leaders need to change leadership style to fit specific situations? Can you think of a better way you could have handled the situation? How important is it for leaders to be consistent in all situations?
