Unit Calendar

Overview of Subjects
Throughout this phase of the year, we will be completing projects and assessments using a variety of
methods. Mathematics we will continue to use the Mathematics process to understand how we use
interpret Data, which will completed at your own pace, Science will use Inquiry model investigations, where
you will learn different topics and experiment creating labs and products. Geography/ History will use Open
Inquiry, where you choose a BIG idea questions and investigate the decisions that create a country and its
constitution.

Language

Vary sentence types and structures for different purposes


Develop vocabulary through reading
Identify their point of view and respond to other points of view
Identify and order main ideas and supporting details into several paragraphs.

Math Data Management


Students will investigate read, interpret, and draw conclusions from primary data and
from secondary data, presented in charts, tables, and graphs to draw conclusions and
defend their ideas.
Finally we will continue to follow the Stock market and begin to model trends.
Data Management
collect and organize categorical, discrete, or continuous primary data and
secondary data and display the data using charts and graphs, including frequency
tables with intervals, histograms, and scatter plots;
apply a variety of data management tools and strategies to make convincing
arguments about data;

Science and Technology Water Systems


We all live downstream of someone else. Water is becoming the most valuable
commodity on the planet, but we seem to have very little regard for it in the western
world. During the second part of the unit, we will be discussing as well issues related to
why water is a commodity, as well as why and how we should protect it. We will also
discuss the meaning of We all live downstream of someone else.

Geography:
Recognizing the importance of Urban planning in the development of modern cities.
Students will be create a model city , by discovering the relationships of differing land
used in relation to one another and how the city is organized.

History:
Confederation
Canada birth was a long and difficult process, where many groups came together to
consider a common goal. Students will explain and report on the development of the
regions that changed from Acadia, British North America, Ruperts Land and New France
to become the Dominion of Canada.

Students are going to get a opportunity to begin coding in class and build their own web site. As
we build toward creating businesses this is going to be an essential skill.

Health:
Healthy Eating
Students must create data entry form and track their eating habits for three weeks, then
compare that to the Canadian Food Guide to compare/ contrast, and analyse the
relationships in our food intake. Then create a Public Service Message about healthy
eating.

Art
For the beginning of the year you are going to develop an Art Portfolio.

Demonstrate a variety of art works and identify the media used.

During the year you will be asked to complete an art portfolio.
You must complete a minimum of 10 pieces of art each term.
