Glucose Tolerance Testing & Insulin Testing

Introduction: The purpose of the lab we did was to figure out which kind of diabetes did the the
patients and Anna Garcia has , either Type 1 or Type 2 and we also needed to figure out if Anna
died by diabetes . The samples of blood would change different colors with the glucose and the
insulin and it would tell us what level it was by the color of the line strips in the chemicals.
Procedures:
1. You take 5 samples of each of the patients blood plasma
2. You drop each of the patients blood with the pipet either in 0, 30, 60,90 and 120
3. After that you would place a test strip in the sample.
4. once the test strip is in the sample you wait for the test strip to change colors
5. You do the same thing for the insulin testing except you put the insulin indicator
on top
6. Then you do the same thing with the testing strips as you if with the glucose part
of the lab.

Analysis: Anna Garcia : The analysis we came up with was that Anna Garcia has type 1
diabetes because her glucose levels are way higher than her insulin levels so that means that
her body is not producing enough insulin.
Patient A: I think that maybe the patient A would be close to getting type 1 diabetes because
the baseline level of 30 and 60 her/his patients insulin level was lower than the glucose levels.
Patient B: i think that Patient B has type 2 diabetes because her insulin levels are way over
her/his glucose levels , so if her insulin levels are way high than that could mean that maybe her
insulin is not working well with her body.

Conclusion: Some people who have diabetes take insulin injection treatments which is where
you inject insulin to pump it throughout your body because either you dont have enough insulin
or your body does not work well with your insulin . but there is also downsides of taking insulin
injections , which is you can different side effects and reactions that could not be good for you
and it can do certain things to your body that really is not good for you. but you can definitely
prevent having to do all of this stuff by changing your lifestyle and eating more healthier like not
eating a lot of sugary foods , also exercising can help because if you eat a lot of junk food and
not exercise more , If you are feeling weird and are having signs of diabetes then you would go
to the doctor and the doctor would tell you that you could be pre-diabetic which means that you
are very close to getting either type 1 or type 2 diabetes and that you could prevent from getting
it. so once you do start getting diabetes it will show in your glucose and insulin like if you insulin
level is higher than your glucose or you glucose level is way lower that your insulin.
