Highlights of the Executive Board Meeting

Meeting was called to order at 3:38pm
Presidents Report: Election Day is November 3rd. Please be sure to VOTE!
The polling committee needs to see that NYSUT members are voting.
BOND VOTE: Phone Banks 11/16/15 from 4-7pm at the NYSUT Woodbury Office
(1000 Woodbury Road, Suite 214, Woodbury, NY). WHEA/ PTA meeting has been
scheduled for December 9th at 7:00pm. WHEA General Membership meeting has been
scheduled for December 3rd at 3:30pm. The meeting will be held in the Middle School
Caf. The district has filed a waiver for an extension on APPR.
Grievance Chairpersons Report: Please make sure that you are receiving your
contractual amount of service time. If there are any discrepancies, please tell your
Building Rep so that Dina can look into the problem.
Retiree Report: no report at this time.
Executive Vice Presidents Report: A district gift purchaser is needed. You should
have received an email asking you to complete a survey about Common Core. Please let
your voice be heard by completing the survey. The Retirement Seminar was successful.
About 15 people were in attendance.
Vice President of Legislations Report: Please go and vote on November 3rd. The
Bond Vote is November 17th. We must help to get this bond passed. Teachers are asked
to sign up in your building to make phone calls. It is very important. NYSUT
First Book FREE BOOKS for Classrooms. Chris distributed flyers and asked all
teachers to hand out at P/T conferences. November 17th is SRP Day. Letters will be
placed in all teachers mailboxes on 11/17/15.
Secretarys Report: Please return the updated directory forms. So far Edna is in receipt
of packets from Chestnut and Cornwell. Please send them before the next WHEA
meeting.
Treasurers Report: Lisa received a Directory from NYSUT. When new members are
hired and added to WHEA, Lisa needs to know.

Dental Report- Alison said that admin. is checking into the possibility of payroll
deductions being taken out for Excess Medical.

Middle School Reps: The topic of removing teachers from Hall Duty to cover a class
was discussed.
Cornwell Avenue Reps: The topic of pulling teachers from mandated services to cover
classes was discussed. Lack of regulated heat within the building is still an issue. The
need for common planning time was also discussed.
George Washington: The topic of substitute teachers was discussed. Also the time
schedule for pre/post observation conferences was discussed.
Chestnut St. Reps: The topic of the Bilingual Class was discussed. The need for
common planning time was also discussed.
High School: The master schedule was discussed.
Old Business: The minutes from 9/1/15 and 9/28/15 were read and accepted with one
correction: Edna Messina needed to be added to the attendance of 9/28/15

The next Executive Board Meeting will be held on

November 30th at Cornwell Avenue School.
