Ktdmc:
We were scheduled a visit to Karachi Tools, Dies and Moulds Centre (KTDMC)
for an Industrial visit. It was a long trip to the Korangi Industrial Area. KTDMC is
not only a manufacturing company, but also a teaching and training facility for
increasing and improving the skills of the engineers. We were shown various
videos and ppt slides which helped us understand the techniques used to make
tools using moulds and dies. We were explained the difference between moulds
and dies which was very helpful.
After an hour, we were taken to the workshop in groups of 10. There, a guide took
us to each machine and explained us the purpose and concept. We saw Sheet metal
dies, Injection Moulds, Die Casting Moulds, Die and Mould Accessories, Reverse
Engineering, Rapid Prototyping and Heat Treatment of Dies and Moulds.
Learning Objectives:
Deepening the understanding of the industry and experiencing the practical
application of the theories learnt in class.
Making them familiar with different machines and give them exposure to the
working practices.
Helping them understand the concept of Heat treatment, reverse engineering etc.
Helping them understand the problems in the industry and to counter them.
Importance of working with safety.
Increasing awareness of the potential to create more institutions such as AmanTech
which are helping poor students.
Interaction of the students with faculty.

Learning Outcomes:
Engineering Materials: Types of materials which are being processed like metals,
ceramics and plastics.

We learnt the Heat Treatment process which is included in this course and would
be helpful.
Experienced the atmosphere, saw CNC machines etc.
Reverse engineering process is helpful for further, taught us the latest technique
that can extract all information of the part that is being observed.
