Time Estimate: 30 min.

Topic: Like

Goal(s):
When given printed material the learner will recognize the word like.
Objective(s):
The learner will demonstrate their knowledge of the word like by circling like in
their crayon book with 80% accuracy.
The learner with demonstrate their knowledge of the word like by sequencing the
letters l-i-k-e correctly in order to spell the word like with 80% accuracy.
TEKS:
110.11.3D - Reading/Beginning Reading Skills/Phonics. Students use the relationships
between letters and sounds, spelling patterns, and morphological analysis to decode
written English. Students are expected to: identify and read at least 25 high-frequency
words from a commonly used list.
These are general goals and objectives each child is at a different level. A goal/
objective appropriate for one child may not be an appropriate goal/objective for the
whole class. The children are also learning foundational skills that align with the
TEKS, but do not fully cover each TEK for their respective grade levels.
Materials/Resources/Technology needs:
White board, L-i-k-e papers, microphone, crayon books, Like worksheet, laser pointer,
and a dry erase marker.

Instructional Procedures
Focusing Event:
-Pass out L-i-k-e cards.
-I will write Like on the white board. Like is spelled L-i-k-e.
-Who has an L on their desk? Come and stand with your letter.

-Repeat for i-k-e.


- Give Aidan microphone. Ask him what L-i-k-e spells.
Teaching/ Learning Procedures:
-Pass out the Like crayon book.
- Directions: Color each crayon and circle the word like on each page.
- Work with individuals on the crayon book.
-Pass out the like tracing sheet.
-Now we are going to practice writing the word like. Fill in each blank with the word
like.
- Work with students individually.
Formative Check (ongoing or specific):
I will formatively assess these children through observation.
Reteach (alternative used as needed):
If students need extra practice, I will give them L-i-k-e cards and have each individual
put the letters in order on their desk. This way they will have the word spelled out on
their desk for future reference during activities.
Closure:
I will call on each child to trace like on the board using a laser pointer.
Assessment/Summative Evaluation:
Students will be assessed through an end of unit pencil paper assessment.

Sp.Ed.: The entire class falls under this category. Some modifications include hand over
hand instruction and a dotted line to trace over when writing the word like.
