The Channel 4 Programme Idea

The Idea
Whats the Big Deal? An audience participation topical comedy show
hosted by Charlie Brooker, Shapi Khosandi and Richard Ayoade. The
show will look at taboo subjects such as a womens right to have an
abortion, paedophilia, Underage sex and many more. Each week will
focus on a specific subject finding out the publics opinions, sparking
lively debate and challenging misconceptions.

The Target Audience

Men and women aged between18-34. Individuals who are old enough to
understand the subject matter and enjoy a certain level of cringe
comedy.

The Remit
A) Demonstrate innovation, experimentation and creativity: The show
seeks to push the boundaries of social acceptabilitys by
challenging attitudes toward taboo subjects and in the process
find out what the general consensus is in regard to said issues.
Due to the nature of this programme it will either create intrigue or
public outrage. For these reasons I believe it does fit the above
criteria
B) Appeals to the tastes and interests of a culturally diverse society:
There will be a wide range of subject matter covered, the audience
as well as the presenters will represent a diverse range of people,
opinions and ideas.
C) Educational Nature and Value. By its very premise the show seeks
to educate about these specific issues and whether or not attitudes
toward them are warranted.
D) Exhibits a distinctive character: An audience participation show
focusing specifically on taboo subjects and hosted by three
comedians of varying ages, races and sex

Platforms/Time of Day
The show will be shown on channel 4 as it will appeal to both the casual
channel 4 viewer and the more die hard channel 4 viewer. I do not
believe that this would appeal to the E4 demographic as shows
produced for that channel tend to be lighter in nature. Due to the subject
matter the show will be aired after the watershed (9pm) preferably on
Thursday/Friday evenings in order to maximise target audience reach
