Objective: Students will learn how to think critically about ASL Compound Signs after studying the
differences and similarities between the way English compound words are formed and the way ASL
compound signs are formed.
Teaching Methods used: Grammar Translation, Content Based Instruction, and Cooperative
Learning.

Activity: Working in pairs; use the six online


ASL dictionaries to research four compound
signs (given by teacher). After 20-30 minutes
of research each group will take turns
comparing the results of their findings. (Both
members of each group will report their
findings to the class)

signs. Discuss two sings that become one
