NOVEMBER/DECEMBER Co a SUE IIA ipper's Corner Team Tiger, Happy Holiday's Tiger Family. Iam extremely proud and humbled to be a part of this organization. We are in the middle of our Operational Readiness Evaluation and doing great things. The last few months of detachments and exercises prepared us well for this evaluation and it shows. Thanks again for the wonderful support from home that allows us to be sucessful on the road. Please stop by the squadron at 1100 on November for the 2015 Turkey Burn. Iam sad to report that we lost a great Sailor on 08 November 2015. AD2 Virgilio Milay passed away in an automo dent. He was a fantastic Sailor and irreplaceable member of the Fighting Tiger Family. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season. Tiger ~ Tiger, Skipper Barlow Ombudsman Greetings Tiger Families, While Thanksgiving and the winter holiday season is traditionally a festive time of year filled w colorful decorations and family gatherings, it is too often a time of tragedy and loss as well. National, Fire Protection Association (NFPA) statisties indicate that 30% of all home fires and 38% of home fire deaths occur during the months of November, December, and January, These fires result from a variety of sources, but frying turkeys, holiday decoration malfunctions and Christmas tree fires, in particular, are by far the most common. These fires result in twice the injuries and five times the fatalities per fire as the average winter holiday home fre. In 2014 a staggering 4,300 home fires wer attributed to deep-fried turkey disasters, an average of 260 home fires from Christmas trees, and another 150 home fires per year were caused by decorative and holiday light malfunctions. Before you set up your turkey fryer this, ‘Thanksgiving, remember to: Stay at least 10 feet away from the house Keep the fryer on a flat, level surface Use a thawed and dry turkey to avoid spill over Monitor the temperature Be prepared with a multipurpose fire extinguisher at all times Likewise, before you trim the tree and hang your holiday decorations, remember to: Inspect electrical decorations for damage before Do not overload electrical outlets Never connect more than three strings of incandescent lights Keep fresh trees watered daily Do not water fake trees daily ~ Use battery operated candles Protect cords from damage Turn off, unplug, and extinguish all decorations before going to sleep or leaving the house Keep your home and loved ones safe by taking a little extra time this holiday season, your attention to detail could help prevent a trage! ‘The Fighting Tigers Patrol Squadron 8 Please remember to check with MWR at their new website http:/navymwrjacksonville.com/ for more information regarding the many events being held on base and in the Jacksonville and Orange Par areas this holiday season.
