Thanksgiving Cornucopia

Arrangement
Hannah Forrey period 6
Description of the arrangement:
The purpose of this arrangement was a Thanksgiving themed
arrangement. The shape is more awkward than usual because the
vase is a cornucopia and overall it was medium-sized. The colors
were very fall and included red, many shades of yellow, peach,
purple, orange and green. Mine mostly consisted of yellow but it
also had some red and purple with some hints of greenery.
Materials List:
1 sunflower
1 stem of pom pom mums
2 stems of standard mums
1 stem of mini carnations
2 stems of solid aster
3 stems of leather leaf
1 stem of eucalyptus
1 cornucopia
floral foam
Steps to create arrangement:
1. first I inserted my leather leaf and eucalyptus all around
the collar of the cornucopia as my greenery base.
2. Next I put my mums and carnations evenly in front of
the greenery and all in the floral foam (so evenly dispersed).
3. Next I placed my sunflower in the center of the
arrangement
4. Lastly I filled in any small gaps with the solid aster
Standards addressed in this arrangement:

Standards addressed in this arrangement include unity and evenly

spacing your flowers. This arrangement will help the designer with
different types of bases and themes they may be presented with.
Since the cornucopia was different it was nice to place the flowers
as balanced as possible for an awkward shape. The colors also
helped with unity and how fall-like the arrangement looked.
Critique:
The thing I liked most about this arrangement was the fact that
we got to chose where we wanted to place our flowers. I liked
being able to pick my focal point and go from there. I also enjoyed
the diversity of the flowers, especially the sunflower, and the
colors of the carnations. If I had one complaint it would probably
be the lack of extra colors and fuller flowers. With smaller flowers
its harder to make the arrangement as full as I would like it. Most
of the flowers were also yellow and it didnt seem as fall as it
could have been.
Summary:
Some basic skills that I learned from making this arrangement
include balance, because I was trying to evenly disperse the
carnations throughout the arrangement, and I also learned about
emphasis. The emphasis was mainly on the sunflower since I put
it in the center of the arrangement and to me, it was the most
important and biggest part of the arrangement. Making this
arrangement is important to floral design because it is important
for the designer to create their arrangement on their own
sometimes and balance and range the variety of colors in their
arrangement how they think it would look best.
