Fifth Grade
Standard: 3.3.5.A4: Explain the basic components of the water cycle.
Objective: Using knowledge from the water cycle experiment, the
students will be able to identify why the water cycle is important to our
everyday lives within 100 percent accuracy.
This summative assessment is distributed between three different
tiers. This is a water cycle experiment the students will participate in.
What happened?
Tier II: Students will then complete the Water Cycle Poem. This poem
will have the students reading silently and then labeling the water
cycle appropriately.
Objective: Using the Water Cycle Poem, students will be able to label
the water cycle appropriately within 100 percent accuracy.
Assessment:
Water travels in a cycle, yes it does!
Water travels in a cycle yes it does!
It goes up as ______________________________________,
And it forms clouds as _________________________________________,
Then it comes down as _________________________________________,
Yes it does!
Tier III: Students will take the data and observations from the
experiment and then write 2-3 paragraphs in their journals about the
water cycle. They will also be asked to write how the water cycle is
important and how it impacts us, as humans, on Earth.
Objective: Using their journals, students will be able to write about
how the experiment relates to the water cycle, and how the water
cycle impacts us on Earth within 100 percent accuracy.
Assessment: Write 2-3 paragraphs reflecting on the experiment and
describing how the water cycle is important/ impacts us on Earth.
