Executive Summary:
The project report clearly highlights about the baby care industry (diapers) and the
various companies with their brands which offer diapers in India. The report gives
mainly emphasis on brands available and marketed in India. It gives a clear
outline what product range the companies are offering for babies. Information
about companies, their brands and product range is clearly mentioned. A
comparison between India and other countries is mentioned and major players of
India are highlighted. Various details about the different companies are also
mentioned and what they offer apart from baby care (diapers). Major findings
have been discussed

Research Methodology
Primary Data:
Data was collected from different shops and medical stores.
Different types of diapers were present but were not more than 3 at
one store. When compared with secondary data only few brands
were available in market.
Secondary Data:
Data was collected from websites of different companies and
mainly the context was searched from the Indian perspective. In
order to have a look over a difference between India and other
countries some data was searched on global websites.

Product Lines
Little Snugglers Diapers for new babies, formerly known as Gentle Care (name
changed around May 3, 2009). This line is designed to gently protect new babies,
features Winnie the Pooh and his friends, with step sizes of Premmies, Newborn,
1, and 2.
Little Movers Diapers for active babies, formerly known as Natural Fit (name
changed around May 3, 2009). This line is designed to fit and comfort for active
babies, features Winnie the Pooh and his friends, with step sizes of 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Snug & Dry Diapers line is designed with leakage protection (LeakLock) to
capture moisture to help prevent leaks. Features Mickey and friends, with step
sizes of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Overnites Diapers line is designed to absorb nighttime leaks. Features Sleepy
Mickey, with step sizes of 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Pure & Natural Diapers line is introduced in April 13, 2009 as a super premium
diaper that includes gentle and natural materials and ingredients
Sizes
Newborn up to 10 lb - These are for small newborn infants. May be too small for
some infants.
Size 1 - 8-14 lb - For larger newborns and infants up to about 3 months old.
Size 2 - 12-18 lb - For infants from about 2 months to 6 months.
Size 3 - 16-28 lb - For the transition of infancy to toddlerhood - for babies from
about 5 months to 2 years.
Size 4 - 22-37 lb - for toddlers from about 1 year to just about 3 years of age.
Size 5 - 28+ lb - for toddlers to preschoolers from about 2 and a half years to 4
years old. Ideal for preschoolers who still wet heavily at night. About the size of
size 4 underwear.
Size 6 - 35+ lb - for toddlers as well as preschoolers and elementary school kids.
For children from 3 and a half to 6. For children who toilet train later than usual
as well as those who may be trained during the day but need nighttime protection
for bedwetting and wet too heavily for Pull Ups products. About the size of Size 6
underwear.
Snug & Dry line also has additional size:
Size 1-2 - Up to 15 lb
Kimberly-Clark also makes smaller diapers for premature infants that do not use
superabsorbents.
About Godrej:
The Godrej Group was founded by Ardeshir and Pirojsha Godrej in 1897.

Traditionally, Vikhroli, a suburb to the Northeast of Mumbai has been Godrej's
manufacturing base, but increasingly the group have moved significant production
facilities away from Mumbai. The Godrej group also owns vast land in Vikhroli,
occupying 3500 acres (14 sq km) of land on both sides of the Vikhroli section of
the LBS marg. That makes the Godrej group the biggest private land owner in
Mumbai by far. Such vast land can, in theory, be used to create at least 1500 acres
of residential floor space, which, at very modest rates (Rs.10000/sq ft), can be
sold for USD 16 billion . Thus, the Godrej group is sitting on an invisible cashpile

About Wipro:
Wipro Technologies Limited (BSE: 507685, NYSE: WIT) is a giant information
technology services corporation headquartered in Bangalore, India. According to
the 2008–09 revenue, Wipro is the third largest IT services company in India and
employs more than 98,391 people worldwide as of 2009. It has interests varying
from information technology, consumer care, lighting, engineering and healthcare
businesses. Azim Premji is the Chairman of the board.
Wipro (an acronym of "Western India Palm Refined Oils") started as a vegetable
oil trading company in 1947 from an old mill at Amalner, Maharashtra, India
founded by Azim Premji's father.
When his father died in 1966, Azim, a graduate in Electrical Engineering from
Stanford University, took on the leadership of the company at the age 21. He
repositioned it and transformed Wipro (Western India Palm Refined Oil Ltd) into
a consumer goods company that produced hydrogenated cooking oils/fat
company, laundry soap, wax and tin containers and later set up Wipro Fluid
Power to manufacture hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders in 1975. At that time, it
was valued at $2 million.
In 1977, when IBM was asked to leave India, Wipro entered the information
technology sector.
In 1979, Wipro began developing its own computers, and in 1981 started selling
the finished product. This was the first in a string of products that would make
Wipro one of India's first computer makers. Wipro Technologies hired managers
who held their employees to strict performance standards.
In 1980 Wipro moved into software development and started developing
customized software packages for their hardware customers. This expanded their
IT business and subsequently developed the first Indian 8086 chip. Since 1992
Wipro has begun to grow its roots offshore in United States and by 2000 Wipro
Ltd ADRs were listed on the New York Stock Exchange site. The company's
revenue grew by 450% from 2002 to 2007.
Wipro started a highly appreciated initiative called WASE - Wipro Academy of
Software Excellence in 1996 .Under this program, some of the brightest science
graduates are selected and enrolled in an MS (Software Engineering) program in
collaboration with BITS,Pilani.
About Pampers:
Pampers is a brand of baby products marketed by Procter & Gamble. Pampers
was at one time only used as a name for a disposable diaper. Pampers diapers
come in sizes going all the way up to size 7. The smallest size is Preemie which is
for premature babies, it has a cut out notch like the newborn diapers. Diapers
going up to size 2 are sold as Swaddlers or Baby Dry. Diapers in size 3-6 are sold
as either Cruisers or Baby Dry. There is a size 7 diaper available only in the
Cruisers line. Pampers also produces wipes to complement their diapers. In
addition to these products they sell training pants under the name Easy Ups. There
is also as line of disposable swimpants sold under the brand name Splashers (or
Sunnies in Europe). There is also a line of bedwetting products named Underjams
which go up to 85 lbs. Some parents have also said that they use the regular
diapers on their bedwetting, or incontinent, child. In addition to diaper type
products Pampers also markets disposable bibs under the name Bibsters and a line
of bath products under the name Kandoo. The main competitor in the United
States is the Huggies brand.
Pampers were introduced in 1961. They were created by Vic Mills. The name
"Pampers" was coined by Alfred Goldman, Creative Director at Benton &
Bowles, the first ad agency for the account.
These early diapers were bulky, heavy products composed of fluff pulp with a
rayon topsheet, polyethylene backsheet. In 1966, Pampers launched a new
'wingfold' design and by 1969 started a "third size". It was also by this time that
Pampers became a national brand in the United States. Procter and Gamble
replaced the pin on design with tapes in 1971. Toddler and Premature Infant sizes
were also introduced around this time. Around 1982 Pampers switched from the
traditional 'wingfold' design of the early 1960s to the more conventional hourglass
shape, a feature that was first introduced on Luvs in 1976, and has evolved into an
industry standard. In 1986 thin diapers made with absorbent gelling material was
released. This made the average weight of a typical medium size diaper decrease
by about 50%. In 1987 Pampers and Huggies both introduced new frontal tape
systems which allow multiple repositioning of the lateral tape without tearing the
diaper. In the 1990s Pampers introduced an even thinner diaper known as Ultra
Dry Thins.
The 1990s also saw the introduction of gender specific diapers in the Pampers
brand and also the return to unisex diapers towards the end of the decade. In 1993
Pampers first attempt at training pants was introduced. These were simply known
as Pampers Trainers and would be a short lived product. Pampers would not try
doing training pants again until the introduction of Easy Ups. In 1998 Procter &
Gamble introduced its largest diaper at the time: Pampers Baby Dry Size 6. It was
promoted in an advertising campaign featuring famous pediatrician and child
development expert Dr. T. Berry Brazelton. Dr. Brazelton said to let the child
decide when the time is right to potty train. The size 6 diapers were billed as for
growing toddlers. Huggies also introduced a size 6 diaper at this time.

Major findings:
1) Baby care industry in evolving in India and growing at a great speed
2) Customized services are provided for babies now.
3) Mothers are not using clothes as diapers or hesitant to use it so they look
for diapers and what is best for their baby
4) Even branded diapers are present in the market yet unbranded or local
diapers and clothes are preferred by several families, mainly by rural
families or semi-urban families.
5) Due to increase in the standard of living and education diapers have come
into existence much more than before.
6) As now even the schedule of babies is hectic and mothers are going to
office, mothers don’t want their babies to become sick or feel
uncomfortable due to wet clothes or diapers.
7) Due to competition in this industry several other players are coming into
existence which will give the best to the customers i.e. the babies.
8) As India is very much populated and every second a new baby is taking
birth, a great market can be seen by the baby care industry.
Conclusion
Studying about the baby care industry a lot of knowledge is acquired. What are
the brands and which companies offer what type of products is clearly known? A
lot of difference can be seen between India and the foreign countries where more
customized services are provided. Still there are several hidden needs which the
marketer has to identify in the baby care industry and has to come up with new
products in order to gain the market share and to satisfy the customer on a great
scale.
Even, Indian companies should concentrate on baby care industry and
should bring new products which are of herbal type as baby skin is delicate and a
great demand is for the natural products which will make the baby happy and the
entire family happy.
