Rasulullah (saw) taught that the best friend is someone who reminds you of Allah, increases your Islamic knowledge, and reminds you of the Hereafter when you see their actions. The Prophet Muhammad (saws) also said that people tend to follow the religion of their friends, so it is important to choose friends wisely. A good friend is like a seller of musk who benefits or pleases you, while a bad friend is like the bellows of a blacksmith who could burn or offend you. Allah says that on the Day of Judgment, friends will be enemies except for those with Taqwa.

One companion asked Rasulullah (saw), Who can be my best friend?
Rasulullah (saw) answered, Your
best friend is a person:*when you see him, he makes you remember Allah; *when you listen to him, knowledge of Islam is increased; and *when you see his actions, you are reminded of the life of the Hereafter.
As we all know, Phylox is friendship in Latin. Therefore, we want to be known of our
strong friendship. So what is Rasullulah SAWs opinion about friendship? In an authentic Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: A person is likely to follow the faith of his friend, so look whom you befriend. Friends are indeed a big influence in life. Im not saying that we should avoid our misguided friends completely, but staying at sufficient distance is necessary, yet treating everybody in a noble and kind manner is required. In another Hadith, Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: The example of a good companion and a bad companion is like that of the seller of musk, and the one who blows the blacksmiths bellows.. So as for the seller of musk then either he will grant you some, or you buy some from him, or at least you enjoy a pleasant smell from him. As for the one who blows the blacksmiths bellows then either he will burn your clothes or you will get an offensive smell from him. In his commentary of this Hadith, Imam an-Nawawy said that the Prophet (saws) compared a good companion to a seller of musk and spoke of the virtue of having companions who are good, who have noble manners, piety, knowledge and good culture. Allah, the All-Wise also says: Friends on that Day will be enemies one to another, except alMuttaqiin (i.e. those who have Taqwah). Quran 43:67
