Calculation of the Calorific Value POLYSIUS, dated 04.10.

2010
Step 1: Determination of the gross calorific value in the calorimeter
Calculation of the gross calorific value Ho:

Ho =

C * (Qel . + Q IgnitionAid + Q Acid )

Qel.
QIgnitionAid
QAcid

heat capacity of the calorimeter (instrument constant) [J/K]

temperature increase during combustion in the calorimeter [K]
ignition energy (electrical) [J/g]
combustion energy of the ignition aid [J/g]
energy of the acid created in the calorimeter vessel [J/K]
(Determination by chemical analysis)

Step 2: Conversion of the net calorific value Hu from the gross calorific value Ho

H u = H o24,49 * (8,936 * w( H ))
24,49 = condensation enthalpy of water [J/mol]
8,936 = conversion of Hydrogen into water [mol]
w(H) = Amount of Hydrogen in the elemental analysis [%]
