Lesson Topic: Conditionals - Numbers and money
Time: 50 min
Type of lesson: Combined lesson / Fixation of knowledge, developing skills and acquisition of
knowledge
Anticipated problems: Ss. may not understand the new words they read in the text.
Lesson aims:
To reinforce the already studied grammar structures - conditionals - and to practice them
in a new context;
To introduce new vocabulary related to numbers and money;
To develop reading skills;
Materials: textbooks, handouts.
Methods: scanning for details, skimming for the gist, conversation, explanation, example.
Activity 1: Checking homework
Aim: to check and reinforce the previous knowledge.
Procedure: Ss. read their homework and correct each other when necessary
Interaction: Ss. T., Ss. Ss., T. Ss. / Lockstep
Timing: 5
Activity 2: Warm-up
Aim: to raise the Ss interest in practicing reading skills.
Procedure: T. announces the Ss. that they are going to find out the story of a man called Nick
Leeson, who was sent to prison.

Activity 3: Skimming for the gist
Aim: to practice the reading skills
Procedure: T. asks the Ss. to skim the text in order to find Nick Leeson's job and the crime he had
committed and then the correct heading for each paragraph, ex. 1, 3, page 134.

Activity 4: Scanning for details
Aim: to read and find specific information in the text
Procedure : Ss. read the text again and find out the appropriate verbs they need in order to
complete the new phrases, ex. 5, page 134.

Activity 5: Mixed conditionals
Aim: To familiarize the Ss with mixed conditionals
Procedure: T. asks the Ss. to look at ex. 1, page 135, and say which parts of the sentences refer to
past time and which to present time?

Activity 6: Feed-back - Choose the correct ending for each sentence
Aim: To practice the conditionals
Procedure: T. ask them to look at ex. 2.1, page 135, and to work in groups and find the correct
ending for each sentence. Then they have to decide whether each part of the sentences refers to
past, present or future.

Activity 7: Assigning homework/ Ts appreciation
Aim: to provide consolidation of language
