Your task is to wire a single pole circuit within one hour of receiving these instructions. You'll then use your wired circuit to turn on a light. Your future will be much brighter upon completion of
- a wood wiring platform with one switch
- basic wiring tools - one mounted light box - one 36 inch pre-stripped wire with a wall outlet plug - one 24 inch 12-2 pre-stripped wire (will be explained)
1 Place the switch box so it is on your right side and the light box is on your left side.
Hold the 36 inch wire.
Locate the round clamp
connectors on the switch box.
Thread the 36 inch wire right to
left through the round clamp connectors. a. Assure all stripped wire (wire that is divided into three separate wires) is in the box.
Thread the 12-2 wire through
the switch box clamp connectors and the light box clamp connectors.
Locate your flat blade
screwdriver.
Tighten the screws on the clamp
connectors.
At the switch box, adjoin the 2
white wires with the yellow wire nut.
a. This keeps the wires from pulling
out of the boxes.
a. To do this, hold the wires side by
side.
a. Assure stripped wire is inside each
box.
b. Then, twist the nut clockwise until
the wires begin to twist around one another.
c. Tighten until nut is firmly secure.

Adjoin the 2 bare ground
wires with the green wire nut.
For all remaining wires, you will
need to end a J at the end to connect to the appropriate terminals.
Repeat the J hooking for
these remaining wires:
Locate the following three
screws on the light box: Two gold screws and one green screw.
a. Keep the wires side by side.
a. Two black wires at the switch box
a. The J should e tight e ough to stay around the screw.
b. Slide the green wire nut over the
longer wire, allowing it to pass through the top of the nut.
b. Two bare wires at the light box
b. Using the needle nose plyers, pinch the bare end of each wire and e d it to ake the J shape.
c. Tighten the nut the same as you
did in Step 8c.
c. One white wire at the light box

Inside the light switch box,
hook the bare wire around the green screw.
Hook one black wire on a gold
s rew and pin h the J hook closed.
With the flat blade
screwdriver turn each of the screws until they are secure against the wire looped around them.
Locate the light switch. There
are oval-shaped holes on the top and bottom of the switch.
a. Pinch the hook closed with the needle
nose plyers. This will keep it from falling off the screw terminal.
a. Repeat this for the other black wire.
a. Locate the two screws passing through these holes. These screws are mounting screws and will secure the switch to the box.

Gently fold all the wires into
the box.
Use the screw driver to
secure the mounting screws into the box.
Now locate the terminal
screws on the light box.
You will J-hook ea h of the
following wires to their respective screws, the same as you did on the switch box:
a. Tuck them in so that the
mounting screws align into the screw holes on the box.
