What You'll Need:

What You'll Do:


Your task is to wire a single pole circuit within one
hour of receiving these instructions. You'll then use
your wired circuit to turn on a light.

- a wood wiring platform with one switch

- basic wiring tools


- one mounted light box

Your future will be much brighter upon completion of


these instructions!

- one 36 inch pre-stripped wire with a wall outlet plug

Note: Parental supervision suggested for those under 18.

- one single pole light switch

- one 24 inch 12-2 pre-stripped wire (will be explained)


- one light socket
- one light bulb
- one set of directions

Gather your materials.

Hold the 36 inch wire.

Place the switch box so it is on your right


side and the light box is on your left side.

Thread the 36 inch wire left to right through the


round clamp connectors on the switch box.

stripped wire
(wire that is
divided into
three separate
wires) is in the
box.

Thread the 12-2 wire through the switch box


clamp connectors and the light box clamp
connectors.

Locate your flat blade screwdriver.

Tighten the screws on the clamp connectors.

the wires
from pulling

boxes.

At the switch box, adjoin the 2 white


wires with the yellow wire nut.

a. To do this,
hold the wires
side by side.

twist the
nut
clockwise
until the
wires
begin to
twist
around
one
another.

Adjoin the 2 bare ground wires with the


green wire nut.

Tighten
until nut
is firmly
secure.

over the longer
wire, allowing it
to pass through
the top of the
nut.

For all remaining wires, you will need to

appropriate terminals.

the bare end
of each wire
and bend it to

Repeat the J -hooking for the remaining


wires:

Locate the following three screws on the light


box: Two gold screws and one green screw.

Inside the light switch box, hook the bare


wire around the green screw.
a. Pinch the
hook closed
with the
needle nose
pliers. This
will keep it
from falling
off the screw
terminal.

Hook one black wire on a gold screw and


pi h the J -hook closed.
a. Repeat
this for the
other black
wire.

With the flat blade screwdriver, turn each


of the screws until they are secure against
the J -hooked wire.

Gently fold all the wires into the box.

Locate the light switch. There are ovalshaped holes on the top and bottom of the

Use the screw driver to secure the


mounting screws into the box.

You will J-hook ea h of the followi g wires to their


respective screws on the light base.

two screws

will secure
the switch to
the box.

Now locate the terminal screws on the light


box.

screws and
one green

21 Secure all three screws with the screwdriver.

a. Tuck them
in so that the
mounting
screws align
into the
screw holes
on the box.

22 Fold all of the wires gently into the box.

Put the panel with the light switch on it on


top of the light box.

mounting
screws to
pass through
the keyshaped
screw holes
on the light
base.

Using the screw driver, tighten these


24 screws against the light base.

sure that
screw holes
on the panel
and box line
up.

25 Install the light bulb in the light box.

a. To
install,
turn the
lightbulb
clockwise
until it is
secure.

*Flip the
switch up
to turn on
the light.
*Flip it
down to
turn off
the light.

Plug the 36 inch wire into the wall.

Now, shed a little light on your success!!
