N479 Professional Activity Evaluation Form

Your Name: Jenna Coakley

Date of Activity: 8/22/2015 Faculty name: Darlene Lacroix

Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with

I attended an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support class in a small group with my classmates.
My role was to learn what do to as a nurse in a cardiac arrest situation.
Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?
The class was held in a classroom at St. Joes Hospital. The duration of the class was 8 hours.
Discuss the value of this experience to you.
This experience was valuable to me because it taught me how to manage cardiopulmonary arrest.
The class went beyond the basics of CPR. I also learned more about airway management,
pharmacology, and team dynamics. I also value the fact that the instructor made EKG rhythms
seem easy to understand; something that Ive struggled with during nursing school. By the time
the class was over, I felt confident in the skills that I had learned and would be able to handle a
cardiac arrest situation.
Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future; why or
why not?
I would definitely recommend this specific activity, not only because of the important
information taught in the class, but also because the instructor did an excellent job. It can be hard
to sit in one room for 8 hours but the instructor kept us interested with stories of personal

experience and having us practice code situations. As a nursing student, I would recommend
taking the class during school as I did. That way, you can add it to your resume and hospitals will
see that you took initiative to become ACLS certified.
