an American politician who served
as the35th
President of the United Statesfrom
January 1961 untilhis assassination
in November 1963.

From the very beginning, John


Kennedy, or Jack as the family
called him, suffered frequent
illness. At two, he nearly died
from scarlet fever. Like his
siblings, Jack enjoyed sports, but
he seemed to prefer reading. He
possessed a keen intelligence and
a special charm.

Jack joined the Navy in the fall of 1941. Two years later,
he became a certified American hero. As commander of
torpedo boat, he had kept his men safe behind enemy
lines. Kennedy was serving in the office of the
Secretary of the Navywhen theattack on Pearl Harbor
occurred.

John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th


president at noon on January 20, 1961.

policy was dominated by
American confrontations with
theSoviet Union, manifested
by proxy contests in the
early stage of theCold War.

Assassination

President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas,


Texas, at 12:30 pm on Friday November 22, 1963.
He was shot once in the throat, and once in the
head
