Anatomy & Physiology

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides an overview of functional musculoskeletal anatomy with special emphasis on exercise and
sport movements. This course also provides an overview of basic systems physiology, including skeletal, nervous,
muscular, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The primary objective of this course is to expose the Kinesiology student to fundamental concepts in human
musculoskeletal anatomy and systems physiology. The student will study primary movers and primary joint and
joint-complex functions, and will be prepared to apply this knowledge to exercise prescription and sports
performance. The student will study the integration of multiple physiological systems, and will be prepared to apply
this knowledge to more advanced courses in exercise and/or medical physiology.
REQUIRED/RECOMMENDED TEXT:
None. Come to class and review slides regularly.
Additional readings/websites/videos may be provided throughout the course of this semester.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING:
Student is responsible for bringing a #2 pencil and a SCANTRON 882-E form to all exams

Seven examinations (100 pts each)

CLASS ATTENDANCE AND POLICIES
Attendance Policy: Regular attendance at and participation in all meetings of courses for which a student is
registered are expected. It is the instructor's responsibility to set and to communicate to students the participation
requirements for each course. The degree to which classroom participation is required and whether or not work
missed by a student during an absence may be made up is at the discretion of the instructor. A student who enrolls
for a course and then does not attend is considered absent from class until he or she officially drops the course or
until he or she has accumulated an excessive number of absences and is dropped from the class with a grade of "F."
Excused Absences: In the event that an excused absence causes you to miss an exam, you will be allowed to take a
make-up exam. You must check with the instructor prior to taking an excused absence if you wish to make up an
exam. If you miss an exam due to an unexcused absence, you will not be allowed to make up the exam and your
grade for that particular exam will be zero. Make up exams in the case of a change in schedule by the instructor will
be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
