Escalation of Force: Social Studies/ Grade 8
SS08-S2C8-04
Objective:
The students will analyze the significance of the Battle of Bulge in World War II by
distinguishing the correct answer to questions in a short quiz.
Standard:
Describe the following events leading to the Allied victory: Battle of the Bulge
Auditory Signal:
In order to regain the students attention the teacher will be using 1-2-3 eyes on me. Whenever
the students actions do not align with the daily objective.
Directions:
As the students walk into the classroom, the students will sit down and wait for the teacher to
give instructions for the lesson. Once directions are given, the students will have one minute to
complete a short quiz, for understanding, before the teacher begins the Prezi presentation. After
the teacher is done with the presentation, the teacher will ask for understanding to clarify any
misunderstandings the students may have. The students will then take a short quiz that will
measure their current understanding of the significance of the Battle of the Bulge and the impact
it had in ending WWII.
Anticipatory set/ Bell work:
The students will take a short quiz to measure their knowledge of the Battle of the Bulge before
the lesson.
Bridge:
Now let us dive into todays Prezi presentation!!!!
Lesson:
Using an exemplary Prezi presentation to teach the students about the significance that the Battle
of the Bulge had on the outcome of WWII.

Short Activity:
The teacher will ask the students questions about the presentation for understanding, such
question as:
How many lives were lost in the Battle? Who is the prominent leader on the battlefield for the
U.S.? Why was it named the Battle of the Bulge?
Exit Ticket (Assessment)/ Closure:
The students will retake the quiz from the bell work with three more questions from the provided
passage.
List of materials needed:
Pen, pencil, or markers
Blank sheet of printer paper
Assessment:
1.) What was Hitler's objective for the Battle?
2.) When was the Battle of the Bulge?
3.) Who fought in the Battle of the Bulge?
4.) Why was the battle fought?
5.) Where was The Battle of the Bulge fought?
6.) How many soldiers were lost on the German side?
7.) How many total live were lost during the battle?
8.) Who is the prominent leader on the Battle field for the U.S.?
