This study analyzed the correlation between work load and work stress for nurses in the emergency room and patient ward at Bitung General Hospital. A cross-sectional study was conducted in February-March 2010 with 36 nurse participants who met the criteria. Data was collected through observation and questionnaires, and analyzed using Spearman's rank test. The results showed a significant positive correlation between work load and work stress for both emergency room nurses and patient ward nurses. For emergency room nurses, the correlation was strong with a significance level of p=0.001 and correlation coefficient of r=0.825. In world work stress's causative of many things, and one of the many things is work load effect, well be and also heavy that in reference to working condition which charge in physical and also mental any time and any where. Work load can be seen of two viewpoints, which is subjectively and objectively. Work load objectively is overall time which be used or total activity that is done. Work load subjective is size one be used by someone to question about work load which is proposed, about, measure and pressure of work. This research aimed to analyze correlation work load with work stress of nurse at emergency room and nurse in patient ward in Emergency room and Patient Ward at Bitung Generally Hospital. Design of this research was cross sectional study, the population are all of nurse, it has done in February to March 2010. Samples are 36 members who included in criteria. The data collected with observation and questioner, then analyzed with spearman rank test, and significant level at < 0,005. The result showed there was correlation between work load with work stress of nurse at emergency room and nurse in the patient ward in Emergency room and In Patient Ward at Bitung Generally Hospital level of member with significant level p: 0,001 and coefficient correlation r : 0,825 to nurse in emergency room and for nurse in the patient ward the level of member with significant level p:0,002 with coefficient correlation r : 0,597. It can be concluded, there are Correlation between work load with work stress to nurse at the generally hospital of Bitung. So recommended to this observational result that nurse in emergency room with moderate work load is tending experiences stress job in level moderate too. And for the nurse in the patient ward with moderate work load affectively experience demulcent work stress. Key words : Work Load, Work Stress, Associate Nurse
