The primary mission of the Border Patrol is to prevent intruders (either terrorists or neighboring country

civilians or military men), their weapons including mass destruction weapons from entering into our country.
Though the patrol work tirelessly on the freezing borders of North, many intruders are still entering into our
country and performing many illegal activities or stopping the work of our own developmental activities. The
Border Patrol utilizes a variety of equipment and methods to accomplish its mission in such diverse terrain.
Electronic sensors are placed at strategic locations along the border to detect people or vehicles entering the
country illegally. Video monitors and night vision scopes are also used to detect illegal entries. Some of the
major activities include maintaining traffic checkpoints along highways leading from border areas, conducting
city patrol and transportation check.
The primary objective of this proposal is to provide a biometric system which helps in detecting and
reporting the entry of an intruder and revealing their identity (by checking against the global database). Of all
the biometric devices and scanners available today, it is generally conceded that iris recognition is the most
accurate, though it was patented only in 1994. Iris is a colored muscle present inside the eye which helps in
controlling the amount of light entering the eye. Due to its uniqueness, universality, reliability and stability, Iris
patterns serve a major role in several potential recognition or authentication applications, such as airport
authentication systems, military applications like border control systems, forensic investigations, crypto
systems, time and attendance maintenance systems, banking applications and many others.
