7 Security of Information

Remember

1. Explain the term `firewall'.

A firewall is a piece of hardware or software solution that controls access
to protected networks.

2. Identify the two areas where hackers may be able to attack

network data.
• Proxy Server
• Encryption/decryption
3. Explain how proxy servers help to secure data.

Proxy servers can be configured to act as firewalls that prevent direct

communication between a client and a host by acting as an intermediary.
A proxy server can also create honey pot which is sites without sensitive
data which can trick hackers by attaching them away from the real server.

Think

Security is so important to a network because the viruses and the hacker

can do some damage to the network. Proxy can create honey pots to try
and make hackers avoid the real server in your network.
