Simulation
Whole group instruction
Technology integration
Other:

General Objectives:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of titration
2. Perform titration calculations
Specific Objectives: Students will be able to
1.calculate the concentration of an acid given a standard solution of known volume
2. calculate the number of moles given the concentration

Lesson connections to previously learned material:

Students will use their knowledge of moles and mass to do calculations with moles and equations
Introduction
The following problem will be given to students:

Students will be asked to examining the problem and identify the

variables in terms of what is known and what is being asked to find.
New Material
A students will be asked to state the law of conservation of mass and to
define concentration. Using the definition it will be outline to students
that concentration is in dm3. Therefore the # of moles given is for 1 dm3.
Students will be asked to think about how they could work out how
many moles are in 25 cm3.

Chemistry for

The word equation for the reaction will be written asking a student to
write the chemical equation and balance it. Using the balance equation
the molar ratio will be outlined and discussed for students to note.
A student will be asked to use the molar ratio to calculate the number of
moles of acid used.

New Material
Students will be reminded that concentration is mass of solute dissolved
in 1litre of solution and how knowing this information can be helpful in
determining the concentration of the acid.
