Pre-operational Stage REPORT 1

Name of child: Rashid

Age: 8
years

Gender: Male

Name of experiment 1: The coins rows.

Describe the basic procedure of the task (How it is
done)
1- First of all, I got 10 coins and divided them into two
rows, each row has 5 coins, with same space
between each coin.

2- Then, I asked the child if these two rows have the

same number of coins or not.
3- Next, I separate coins from the second row.
4- After that I asked again if two rows have the same
number of coins.
Describe the childs responses
When I asked Rashid about the coins before I separate
them, he said after counting them: of course they are
the same. Then, when I separate them and asked him
again, he answered by saying: they are the same,
actually no think change except the space between the
coins!
What do the childs responses signify?
Rashid seems that he was so confident of his answers,
and I think that these questions were so easy for him to
answer, especially when I asked him again after
separating the coins. He was completely sure of his
answer.

Rashid was

Stage Report 2

Name of child: Rashid

Age: 8
years

Gender: Male

Name of experiment 2: The amount of water.

Describe the basic procedure of the task
1- Firstly, I filled the 2 identical glasses with the
same amount of juice, and I asked the child if
these two glasses are the same or not.
2- Then, I pour the second glass into the tall thin
glass.
3- After that I told the child to tell me if they were
the same or not.
Describe the childs responses
For the first question, Rashid said that they are the
same, but, in the second question, Rashid was a little
bit confused in the beginning, so I decided to explain
the question for him. Then, he answered me by
saying: They are the same, because you poured the
juice into a thinner glass which makes the juice come
up.
What do the childs responses signify?
Rashid answered the question in right way, and that
means that he transfer into the third stage of Jean
Piaget stages.
These three
pictures show
when Rashid was
comparing the
amount of juice.

Pre-operational Stage Report 3

Name of child: Rashid

Age: 8
years

Gender: Male

Name of experiment 3: Biscuits.

Describe the basic procedure of the task
1- I toke 3 biscuit and divided unjustly me and the
child in fort of me (1 for him and 2 for me).
2- Then I asked him if it was fair or not.
3- Then I divide his biscuit into two pieces, and I
asked him again: is this fair or not?
Describe the childs responses
When I divide those biscuits Unjustly, Rashid said: This
is not fair!!
Then when I divide his biscuit he said: This is still not
fair!! You have 2 whole biscuit and I have just two
pieces of one biscuit.
What do the childs responses signify?
Actually, Rashid improved for me that he skipped
stage two and transferred to stage 3 which is
concreate-operational stage by knowing that two
biscuits is different than two pieces of biscuit.

These two
pictures show
when Rashid was
explaining his
idea.

Concrete-Operational Stage Report 1

Name of child:
Age: 5 years
Gender: Female
Aisha
Name of experiment 1: The coins rows.
Describe the basic procedure of the task
1- First of all, I got 10 coins and divided them into
two rows, each row has 5 coins, with same space
between each coin.
2- Then, I asked the child if these two rows have the
same number of coins or not.
3- Next, I separate coins from the second row.
4- After that I asked again if two rows have the
same number of coins.
Describe the childs responses
When I asked Aisha the first question, she answered
me by saying that these two rows are the same.
Then, when I separate them and asked her again, she

said that the row with separate coins is more.

What do the childs responses signify?
Aisha didnt know that separating the coins wont
change anything except the length of the row, and
that because she didnt skip the second stage yet,
and that is another improvement for Piagets
experiments.

These two
pictures show
when Aisha was
explaining why
the second row
has more coins.

Describe the childs responses

When I asked Aisha the first question, she told me
that those two glasses are nearly the same. Then,
when I pour the juice into the thin glass, I asked her
if it is same now or not and she answered me by
saying: the second glass has more juice than the
broad glass.
What do the childs responses signify?
As I sow in the video, Aisha is still in stage two,
because she didnt recognize that these two
glasses have the same amount of juice, even when
she saw me pouring the liquid that has the same
amount of juice in front of her into the thin glass.

At the first question, Aisha answered me by saying:
Its not fair, you have two and I have just one. Then,
when I divided her biscuit into 2 pieces, I asked her
again and I said: is this fair or not? She answered me
by saying: Yes, now it is fair, because now I have two
and you have two either.
What do the childs responses signify?
This experiment shows that most of childrens mind in
this age are still developing, and it cannot recognize
many thing yet. And as what did I see in this
experiment, Aisha cannot recognize that there are
differences between having two biscuit and having 2
piece of one biscuit.
