Chan Chan

Location
Chan Chan (the quingnam
Chan-Chan, "shining sun") is
a pre-Columbian adobe city
built on the north coast of
Peru by the Chimu. It is the
largest city built in adobe
America1 and the second in
the world. It is located
northwest of the metropolitan
area of Trujillo between
Trujillo and Huanchaco
districts. It was declared a
World Heritage Site by
UNESCO in 1986 and included
on the List of World Heritage
in danger in the same year.

The city of Chan Chan, the


capital of Chimu, located 5
km from the present city
of Trujillo, is crossed by
streets and avenues,
perfectly groomed,
separating tanks, wells,
workshops, noble palaces
and neighborhoods of
workers. He had a network
of roads that connected
with the administrative
centers of the surrounding
valleys.
