Algebra II Poudre High School Course Information: 2015-2016: Ms. Carmen Thong Room 208
Course Description*
Welcome to Algebra II! This course is a continuation of algebraic and geometric concepts
developed in Algebra I and Geometry. Students will review solving equations, inequalities, and
graphing functions. The students will continue their foundation of functions, use symbol and
manipulation to simplify and solve, connect algebra and geometry, study conic sections, work
different methods for solving system of equations, matrices, quadratic, square root, rational,
exponential and logarithmic functions. Students will continue to build on this foundation as they
expand their understanding through other mathematical experiences.
Course Goals*
I am excited to get to know you guys and to have you in my class. I believe that teachers learn
as much from their students as students learn from their teachers. This will be my first year
teaching and I am sure you guys will help me to become a better educator. My goal is to also
better prepare students for a university environment. This is why my plans are to not only teach
mathematics, but also to teach how to take effective notes, how to explain your thinking and
reasoning, how to interact in order to learn from your peers, how to problem solve, and other
things.

Attendance Policy
It is important to attend class and participate in class discussions and activities. Please make
sure you follow the school's attendance policy. At Poudre High School, excessive tardiness will
be reported to the office for disciplinary action. Students are considered ABSENT when 10
minutes late to class.
3 tardies = 1 unexcused absence
You must be in your classroom and seated by the time the bell rings.
Assignment/Make Up Policy
o I do understand that emergency situations may prevent a student from turning in an
assignment on time. In these situations, a student may submit an assignment no more
than 2 days late. An assignment turned in one day late may not receive credit higher than
a 90. An assignment turned in two days late may not receive credit higher than a 80. On
the third day, the assignment will no longer be accepted. If there are extenuating
circumstances, the student must speak to me privately and I will be happy to discuss
with him/her on a one to one basis.
o Any missed assignments will be your responsibility. If you have an excused absence that
keeps you from either turning in an assignment or receiving instructions for an
assignment, it will be your duty to talk to me about it and to make up any missed work
and to have it turned in on the day the teacher and student agree upon. I will be
uploading all assignments on the following website:
http://www.notarealwebsite.com
Test days can not be made up.
Classroom Expectations
I have one rule in the classroom: respect the following items: yourself, others, supplies, and
learning.
All misbehavior will be met with the three redirects. The first time will be met with a warning.
The second time will result in having the teacher describe the desired behavior to the student
and asking if the student can comply. When the student does a third offense, the teacher will ask
the student to wait for the instructor outside of the classroom.
Academic Integrity
It is considered academically unethical and unacceptable to do any of the following acts:
(i) To cheat on tests or quizzes through the use of crib sheets, hidden notes, viewing another
student's paper, revealing the answers on my own paper to another student, through verbal or
textual communication, sign language, or other means of storing and communicating
information, including electronic devices, recording devices, cellular telephones, headsets, and
portable computers.
(ii) To copy another student's homework and submit the work as if it were the product of my
own labor.
Academic dishonesty can include a failing grade for the assignment or quiz with no opportunity
for make-up, failure in the class as a whole, and possible removal from the course in
extreme/repeat offenses.
