Read a text to the


students, then
discuss. Read a
sentence and have the
class read the
sentence back to you
in unison.
Pair students together
with similar reading
abilities. Discuss
complimentary words
for readers. Then ask
the students to take
turn reading
sentences to each
other, listening and
complimenting the
other reader

Small
homogeneous
groups with
systematic
instruction that
builds skills
gradually.

Stop, Go
Pencil Tap

For students who do


not stop at periods,
have them say the
word stop at the end
of every sentence.
Once you say go the
student may go on to
the next sentence.
Have the student read
a passage and if you
tap your pencil he
must stop and correct
his mistake and then
go back to the
beginning of the
sentence.

Tier Three
Small groups that
focus on one objective
at a time, in order to
avoid overwhelming
the struggling
students. Instruction
should be slow and
deliberate.
