Brick flooring

RINI PATELWALA

Introduction:Such flooring is used in cheap construction,

specially where good bricks are available.

This flooring is specially suited to
warehouses, stores, godowns etc.
Well-burnt bricks of good colour and and
uniform shapes are used. Bricks are laid
either flat or on edge, arranged in herring
bone fashion or set at right angles to the
walls, or set any other good looking
pattern.

Method
The method of preparing the base course for

brick flooring varies from place to place. In one

method , the subgrade is compacted properly, to
the desired level, and a 7.5 cm thick layer of
sand is spread.
Over this, a course of brick laid flat in mortar is
built. This forms of base course, over which the
brick flooring is laid in 12 mm thick bed of
cement or lime mortar, in the desired pattern.
In the second method, 10 to 15 cm thick layer of
lean cement concrete(1:8:16) or lime concrete is
laid over the prepared subgrade.

This forms the base course, over which

bricks are laid on edge on 12 mm thick

mortar bed in such a way that all the joints
are full with mortar.
In both the cases, the joints are rendered
flush and finished. The work is then
properly cured.

SELECTION OF SETTING BED

MATERIALS
Tile or brick ceramic units can be set in one

of three standard materials and methods.

Choose one of the following based on
performance, cost and installation time
requirements.
Concrete base slab is pre-sloped to drains.
For use where maximum protection from
chemical exposure, thermal shock and
constant wet conditions is required.

Uses
Brick floor tile products are available in the

modular brick shape (3 5/8" x 7 5/8") in

either 1/2" or 15/16" thicknesses. This
allows for our brick floor tile to be used
anywhere ceramic tile is considered as well
as installations which will have vehicular
traffic where 15/16" materials set on slab
provides an attractive and functional
design opportunity. We carry both one of a
kind genuine antique Old Chicago sliced
flooring and real clay fired tile in a variety

Advantage
Cleaning brick flooring is generally quite

simple, as most brick floors are treated and

glazed. To clean these floors, a mop or
broom is all that is needed. Brick floors can
also be vacuumed.
By far the best advantage of brick floors,
though, is their elegant durability.
